Hello, I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone on the board for sharing their ideas and knowledge here about these fine old tractors. I am 52 and been a hobby mechanic for many years. I enjoy working on old iron, and have found this old Super Dexta to be a strait forward and rewarding experience. I found it on Craigslist in our area. The owner was the nephew of the original owners. He used to mow for them during his summer breaks from school. They offered the tractor to him when they gave up the farm in there old age. He replaced the radiator, and a few small other parts, and did a average spray can paint job. Since I bought it I have replaced the tach, warning lights, heater switch, battery cables, stop cable, and rebuilt the front spindles. I fitted a newer pair of back tires left over from another project. Rear fenders are next. The tractor starts quickly and burns clean....You just gotta love those old Perkins..... The tractor came with a Woods brand bushhog, and the original owners manual..... It is a 64 with a serial number of d0923663 With the sale of the bushhog, I am into the project so far for 1300 us......

Since the last update, I have scored a replacement mudguard and foot rest at a local wrecking yard. This same tractor also had a pretty good cushion set so I got them also. I have also changed all the fluids, got the parking brake working, changed out the O-rings on my DAR valve, and mowed with it some. Very comfortable tractor other than the steering, which while mowing with an implement on the back wasnt so bad. Today some of the kids from our church wanted to climb up and have a turn.... You can almost see the old Dexta smiling......
What is it about a wagon ride that brings out the kid in us all.....
Nice looking tractor. I'm presently repainting my 61 Dexta with the same paint scheme as I think it looks better than original. If your steering is the same as mine, and your steering is getting stiff you need to remove your steering wheel and pour some grease down the steering tube. It explains this in my manual and works wonders for making the steering easier.
Good luck with your tractor.

I did put 80w90 down the steering shaft, and also removed a shim to get the wobble out of the wheel. Then I rebuilt the front axles. new bushings and thrust bearings... Its better, about like any 600 or 800 but I long for power steering.... heehhe
The only time my 850 steers comfortably is when there is an 800 lb. brush hog hanging on the 3 point. My steering box on that is in need of a good rebuild and the loader doesn't help either.
