According to the workshop manual, its strongly recommended that these are changed if your renewing clutch plates.
I have the dual clutch for live drive and there are 12 spring retainers, part no 354502-S. Had a search for them first on all the sites that sell clutch plates, all the usual suppliers of Dexta parts and these were conspicuous by their absence.
Googling the part number I found one New Holland site in the US that sold a pack of 10 for over 70 dollars. But no sites over hear and using the search engines on UK New Holland and Sparex drew a blank.
I haven't phoned any suppliers up yet however I'm thinking I may need to go to a tractor clutch specailist like these unless you guys know any different
Unfortunatly Dunlop don't stock them and I can't see them at the other usual suppliers either.
So what do most people do if they repalce clutch plates rather than the whole unit, ignore the manual , be careful and reuse the old ones or is there a secret stash somewhere?
Just phoned a tractor clutch specialist and they don't know of a supplier of the retainers - they mentiond something about dung and wooden wobbly horses
Aha, i was also looking through the manual last night and saw you need to relace these bits. I wait with baited breath to see if you can find some, because im going to need some aswell i reckon!
Oh yay, look, another seized bolt! Lets get a hammer.....and some kano.....and some cider!

That's the problem Ben, the retainers are supposed to be renewed when you renew the clutch plates - not re-used 2nd hand etc.
I'm beginning to think people reuse them if they replace the plates themselves, who know what happens if you buy a complete reconditioned clutch though? I'm betting they are not renewed otherwise we would be able to buy spare retainers too, wouldn't we?
I've spoken to one agricultural clutch specialist, however he looked up the whole clutch assembly part number and said the retainers weren't available so definitely didn't recondition them himself, I'm guessing I will have to speak to the company that reconditions them. Its probably one bloke in a shed somewhere with a huge bucket of spring retainers

Hi Mervyn
I haven't had time to photo my clutch assembly yet however here's a pic from the workshop manual
I went to the Newark tractor show today, it was a spur of the moment thing, I was on the way to a wedding in Lincoln on Satruday when we saw the signs so dropped in at the way back. The problem was that I was there with the family so didn't have much time to browse and ask the many suppliers questions about spring retainers and the other parts I need. Cracking weather for this time of year and more tractors than you could shake a stick at unfortunately I also forgot the camere

Doesn't sound expensive if they're the correct parts. Perhaps you could have them delivered to one of our US friends, who would kindly send you a Christmas present!?

Thanks Ben
I'll need 2 packs though as there is 10 in a pack and you need 12 and they state they won't break up a pack, so 140 dollars, probably over 100 quid by the time you put on postage - that means the DIY live drive clutch overhaul is heading towards £170 - making the £270 including VAT for an exchange unit is beginning to look attractive. There a super dexta on ebay with one bid for over £3000 so maybe it is worth buying the exchange clutch
