Super Dexta Hard to start
I recently purchased a Super Dexta and haveing problems starting it. Is it hard to change out the glowplug. The motor has recently been rebuilt so i know the rings are good so it has good compression.
Re: Super Dexta Hard to start
Easy to change. It's right on the intake manifold.
Before you purchase a new one, remove your current one from the intake, push your heater button and see if it glows. Might be a wiring problem.

No heater button? What's powering your "glow plug" ?
Should be a heater button by your light switch. You have to hold it in while pushing the primer on your fuel tap.

No Sir it is missing the hearter button also.SO i need to replace the heater button and glow plug because its not working at all.But i should be pushing the primer at the same time i'm pushing the heater button.( once i replace it all) is that what your saying.

Fireman,
Not really. You need to get the heater plug hot then hit the primer then the starter.
Try this
When you get to the Fordson Tractor Pages Home page, across the top of the page you will see:
Home- Bulletin Board- Wiki- General -The F and N-The E27N Major-The Dexta -The New Major-Links
Run your cursor over The Dexta. A menu will drop down. click on Dexta. a sub menu will drop down.
Click on the owners manual. Click on part II. Click on Starting the engine.
Explains everything.

THANKS Bill
Re: Super Dexta Hard to start
From what I understand, the switch powers the glowplug for 40 seconds, and then you push the primer and it makes a puff of smoke or even ignites in the precombustion chamber/manifold. this hot mixture is drawn in while cranking and aids in the cold start procedure....On mine I can see the oil-and temp lights dim just a little when I push the preheat button. Instead of the 40 dollar switch I opted to use a 6 dollar starter switch instead, and it has been working fine. just a little more tricky to mount inside the gauge pod.....
