the thread on the inlet to my lift pump is not very good and I have a little fuel leak, is there anything i can do apart from replacing the pump?
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Try wrapping the threads with PTFE tape!

I would not use PTFE tape on post filter connections.

This is from experience having found small bits of PTFE tape in an injector pump!

Point taken, but in this instance the lift pump is fitted before the filter!

Went through the same thing last summer. Thought the pump was leaking but it wasn't. It was the farrell on the fuel line. Cut the end of the fuel line off with the old farrell and replace it with a new farrell. No more leak. After the fuel line fitting is tightened a few times the farrell crushes the fuel line to the point that it leaks.

if you want to buy a "high quality".. ie non chinese made pump, but for a cheaper price, try a proper diesel specialist.. I bought mine from

I also bought a diesel filter spin on conversion, and now run a normal landrover diesel spin on filter......

which also mincidentally is far cheaper than the filter heads sold on popular tractor parts sites...

basically for the filter head it is the same dimensions and allows the pipes to be fitted on one side (ie it has blanking plugs to arrange where you want the pipes.

the head can take any spin on fuel filter, ie they are all the same, so you could even put a smaller one on. my first attempt was a small spin on filter from a kubota, but it had no drain tap. (but actually if you painted it blue it looked nearly identical in size to the original dexta fuel filter bowl....)

the landrover one i decided on as it was the biggest that would fit in the space, and it has a drain tap. also, they are possibly the cheapest and readily available.

i was fed up with having to order filters online. (as there are two types for the dexta) and also, my original filter housing does not actually have he correct sealing rings inside the bottom, so it was less than perfect.

the original filter inserts are fairly basic in how they seal... and i noticed that fine dirt was still getting by.....

i also had problems prior to that with the pump.. (see one of my previous thread) which involved something sticking inside the pump....

but after completely replacing everything int he fuel system, ie filter head, filter and pump with the new items listed above... i now have no problems whatsoever... and also I am sure that the diesel is being filtered perfectly....and i can now use easy to obtain landrover fuel filters...

as I have a Landrover anyway, I always buy filters in batches of 5 or so.... therefore I now have commonality on spares. similarly i have put a MF35 spin on oil filter head as well.... which means I can get spin on oil filters easier and cheaper...... plus its much easier to change and less messy in trying to clean....

i have kept the original parts, so that if at any point i decide to put it in a show then i could revert to original, but for normal use, of which it gets used nearly every day then i need something a bit easier to maintain
