HI everyone i know its been a couple of years since i posted on here but when i started restoring my dexta tractor i never thought id be fighting to keep it from being sold but finally ater 2 years ive managed to get it moved to my house from a friends land and when i went and picked it up this is what i a was greeted with so got my work cut out even more than before i started 2 years age anyway im gonna give it a go cheers mark

Nothing a bit of blood,sweat and tears won't sort. Oh and a bulging wallet of course. I just hope the inlet and exhaust manifolds haven't been open to the elements too long or an engine rebuild might be your first job.

hi bensdexta and wee blue fan yeah i know what you mean sum friend im just glad its moved my friend who helped me move it is a agri engineer he said if i give him a list of what parts i need he will do them at mates rates for me we have had the engine turning over as he gave me sum old parts that i needed to get it moved it was a leaky rad and water pump and dynamo that doesn't work i put new pipes on it and it started up fine but ran at full revs but my mate reackons a new diaphragm will sort that out he was surprised as it wasnt seized up anyway il keep posting up dates as i go i will try and load up some pics of the restoration as well cheers for now mark

I would get her under cover if you possibly can. Living out doors is death to old tractors, in this country at least.

For me, sometimes it's better to park a tractor outside. My father parked our 5000 out in the open field during a storm for fear that the wind may knock down the mango trees outside and fall right down to the tractor, which, as we all know, would be a certain death to the tractor.

Well, on that storm two of our mango trees were knocked down, and the tractor escaped damage

yeah i know what u mean ive got a heavy duty ground sheet on it until i build the workshop around it lol

Just a quick thing at the weekend i went with 9 year old my daughter to our local ploughing match as shes a classic tractor nut like me well we were there we only saw this fordson super dexta and fordson super major out of the 150 entraints 90% of the tractors were massey fergusons which is a shame there werent more fordsons i dont plough myself but im thinking of entering ive been told il need a FR ransome 1014 is this the rite plough for my dexta and does anyone here on this site do any competition ploughing if so is it fun to do or stressfull many thanks mark

The classic plough made for the Dexta is the Ransome Robin, TS1013 or TS54 basically the same plough with the former being a later version with no depth wheel for hydraulic (qualitrol) ploughing. TS1014 was a single furrow plough.

For match ploughing you will probably need YL bodies, rather than the much more common and cheaper EPIC bodies.

Ah rite bens thanks for the info but im gonna need one with a depth wheel then as my qualitrol dosent work and ive looked at the rules im not aload anything they might consider a match plough it has to be a basic plough so im guessing i cant have the yl bodies but im gonna talk to one of the organisers to see what i can and cant have as i dont want to be stopped before i start cheers mark

I use a TS 59 with YL 185 bodies , 2 furrow

i'm sure ( fairly sure ) that yls r fine for completion ploughing , 90 % of the plough men I've met use them , prob 99% really.

no easy answer to the question.
epics will be cheaper , but some people don't like them , never used them myself .
i'm NO expert on the subject , i'd be looking for yls , tidy plough prob £ 600 - 1000
or buy a rusty pile like I did and have to spent the time and money in the workshop , wen u could be out ploughing .
59 is a heavy plough designed more for the major than the dexta,

this thread will open a can o worms

only my opinion m8.

if ur only after having a go then the epics will be fine ,and cheaper , then if interest grows ...................

HI tom yeah i was only gonna have a go at the ploughing match when its on next year just to see how i get on and if its the sort of thing i want to do mate so its only ever gonna be a bit of fun mate i have found a ransome robin plough with YL boards on ebay for £200 its a bit rusty but i dont mind restoring one for the rite price as for the qualitrol system im not that mechanically minded so i dont want to mess about with it unless i have to as it works with the lever facing straight down but it wont stay horizontal as the lever dosent click into place when its pulled up but as im restoring the old girl i'll decided when i get to that part thanks to everyone for the advice cheers mark

If it's this one #261294920718, it's NOT a Robin - the man's a fraud!
However, as Tomlad says a TS59 will work with a Dexta, although designed for a Major.

HI yeah its is that plough from looking at the picture its on a massey ferguson id say well i was considering buying it but im not gonna now thanks for the heads up mate i will afta start looking around again then

id say its sat on a 35 , prob MF

I would nt wright the thing of yet , the mould boards r dead , as he states , but the frame looks ok
there is still £2,300 in bits there if it is all ok , but if ur buying one to use , not for spares or a 6 month resto project + lots more money than it aint the one .

replacement yl bodies prob £100-200 a pair at a guess
u would be buying work with that one .
its model no. will be on that plate but I cant read it , looks like a TS 59 but it isn't the same as mine.
prob with incomplete ploughs is getting the bits / they have u over a barrel and u'll have to pay top money to complete it .

probably better spend more on a complete one ??????

HI everyone thanks for all the advice about the ploughs what im just wondering is the ford ransome plough thats on the web page for our local vintage tractor and machinery dealer if it would be worth a closer look it says its a ts59e two furrow with depth wheel its rusty as hell but would my standard dexta be able to handle it if not then its not worth my time and money to restore it so other wise i'll after keep looking thanks again for the advice cheers mark

as Brian told me , don't worry to much about rust , its 30 year old +++
a shiny one would be nice but ull have to pay the premium,
may be the question is about suitability is will ur tractor lift it ?
if the rust on the front of the bodies / mouldboards is seriously pitted it maybe ull never get it to a proper full shine , its looking that way with mine , lighter rust will polish off.
if it was deeply pitted it doesn't really matter .just a shame.

Hi tomlad sorry ive not been able to get a pic at the mo as my father in law died at the start of the week so everythings on hold at the mo but if you want to see what it looks like if you go on patrick edwards machinery web page its on there FR ransome TS 59 E priced at £325+vat to me it looks odd like its missing a mould board but i could be wrong

Hi everyone sorry ive not been on here much but after the death of my father in law everything kinda went tits up and my wife had a break down which is understandable as she was very close to her dad and now shes on the mend she had decided it was time to sort out her dads estate but to her and my shock her older sister had already done that and has taken everything and left her with nothing and now shes vanished of the face of the earth apparently she got my wife to sign a bereavement form when she wasn't in the rite frame of mind and according to the citizens advice bureau theres nothing anyone can do there words to my wife were tuff shit you signed your inheritance away realy sorry to put this on here but i just feel so frustrated that my wife hasnt ended up with anything its not the money we dont need that its the personnel stuff thats upset my wife the most she hasnt even got one picture of her dad again realy sorry to put it on here but i just wanted to vent my anger some how and i hope no one mines if so let me know and i'll remove it anyway i hope everyone has a fantastic xmas and a brilliant new year see you all on the other side
