releasing engaged handbrake

I have a seized handbrake on my 59 Dexta. Is there a way to release the tension before I try to remove the brake drum on the LHS? The handbrake on and will not release. Ideas or comments? thanks Botch.

I have had the same problem, freed it off at the bottom where the ratchet is using a screwdriver to lever it free

thanks for the reply Brian but its seems to be far worse than originally thought. Stripping down the brakes to free up the handbrake and fix now
