bolts to hold on the hood (bonnet?)

Post by terry274 »

My tractor does not have any bolts or screws to keep the hood in place, it just sits on the tractor with the air cleaner keeping it in place. I would like to get the proper fastener but I don't know how it should look. Should the head be rounded, like a carriage bolt?
Do you call this piece the bonnet?
Thanks, Terry

Yes Terry, we call the hood the bonnet. I have a note from Tubal that the original bonnet screws were plain round or mushroom heads no slots and that they are available from http://www.dunloptractorspares.co.uk/Fordson_Dexta.html 'DEXTA Bonnet Screw 1/4Raised' (sorry I can't find a pic but the bolts have a straight screw driver track across a raised head).
Perhaps Tubal can confirm if he sees this
Strangely enough I've just been looking for them too.
All the best,

Send me your addresses, I bought 50 when I fitted Dotty's bonnet.

Hello Brian

Please can you put a picture of the bolt and nut up on the forum. Was fifty the minimum amount you could buy?

Thank you.

I will do it tomorrow Mervyn. No, I could have bought 1 but it would not have been worth getting my wallet out. 50 cost me around £2.00.

Hi Brian, do you have any left and is the offer still open. We are getting ready to paint up the tin work on our SD and could do with a set of bonnet screws.

Thanks

Just to weigh in:

Our '62 Super Dexta came with 1/4" fine thread, round headed screws, I think just under 1" long.

The 4th photo on this Dexta Special shows the plain mushroom heads as Gerald has noted.

We replaced ours with the slotted heads as that was what we had available when the hood was off.I remember holding the visegrips on the head as Dad turned the nut and we wondered why they would not have a slot or hex head!!!
But.. it did look more polished!
