Hi all,
Does anybody know the thread size for the filler cap on the rear axel?
I'm thinking of adding a hydraulic return and wondering if I could get a fitting to thread straight into the hole...
Thanks,
Sam

Re: Axle/Hydraulic Oil Filler Cap Size
I acquired a spare cap and my mate drilled and tapped it BSP to take my hydraulic return.
If you search the old BB there is some discussion on this and a photo of my adapter.
If you can't find it then let me know and I'll put up the picture.

Thanks Jerry, I had seen your photo...

Can I ask, where did you find the oversize looking filler cap?
It would be much easier to drill and tap than one of these...

Cheers, Sam

Looks to me like a steel pipe fitting as used in commercial plumbing / heating / gas installations. Try Pipe Center (part of the Wolseley Group). They cover the whole country.

Re: Axle/Hydraulic Oil Filler Cap Size
I may be mistaken but I'm fairly sure it is the same as an E27N gearbox/back axle filler cap. I had two E27N's before the Dexta and I had some spare caps I know.
I'll dig out an old cap and check it soon (currently repainting/paneling my trailer and moving my log store).
cheers

Re: Axle/Hydraulic Oil Filler Cap Size
Just a quick update, I've not sourced a suitable cap yet, but can confirm that no BSP pipe fitting (tapered of parallel) will fit in place of the filler cap

I am almost certain that the thread on the filler plugs is 1.9/16 UNF form. You can obtain replacement plugs from Sparex.

Re: Axle/Hydraulic Oil Filler Cap Size
I have measured two filler caps and can confirm that they are in fact approximately 1.5/8" dia. with 12 threads per inch unified form.
