major pistons?
in taking two different motors appart out of two different majors, i find two different style of pistons. both have the 1.250 wrist pin. one has the chamber in the center of the piston, the other one is off to one side. now the manual says something about different deck hight on these pistons. i measured both and came up with the same reading. so i am confused over this one? can anyone explain?

Re: major pistons?
thanks brian for that info i had coppied it down earlier, however for what ever reason i can not read it. i even blew it up but still no luck. so i can not see what info is there. if the deck hieght is the same can i use the other piston? i have measured them several times, and come up with same pin diameter, and the same measurement from top of pin to top of piston. that tell me the deck hieght is the same, am i not correct? the only difference is where the chanber in the piston is located. thanks again. sorry i can not make out the info you sent.
Re: major pistons?
Think this is what you need then.

They did not put any info on the picture, just crosses.
For some reason the picture is the Australian version! Will try and get it right.

Re: major pistons?
sorry brian i just can not read the info. either my computer or something but it is just not quite good enough to read. thanks for trying. so i will have to do lots of measuring to see if the pistons will work. i am also starting to rebuild the super major. all new parts. the liner o ring groves i think were not to bad, i put a little metal filler only on one cyl on the land next to water jacket on the bottom. there also are some very small pits ,and i mean small in the o ring area. i feel it would be worse to try fill them than to just leave them alone. i got some of that good silicone from england and will use it. parts all came from agriline. thanks again
Re: major pistons?
Basically it says that the later pistons do not fit in the earlier engine with the central combustion chamber.
Type B with 2.795-2.797" between the crown and the centre of the piston pin are the only ones compatible and these must be used in sets of 4 with solid pins.
Type C can only be used on engines after 1426097 and only then if the engine has a de-compressor and 0.010" has been removed from the block.
Type D is the later engine piston and is not compatible with the earlier engines.
Type C and D have crown to piston pin heights that would not work in the earlier engine, the pistons would hit the head. They also have larger diameter piston pins.
Your second engine may have type B pistons if the pin size and crown to pin distance is the same as the central combustion chamber ones, but you would need to fit all four.

Re: major pistons?
WW, if you print the three pages Brian has posted you will find that they are slightly larger. You can then use a magnifying glass to read all the relevant info.
Assuming, of course, that your computer set-up does not have a page magnifier.

Re: major pistons?
thanks brian. for some reason when i went on line tonite, your info was upside down, but i was able to read it. i printed it off and it came out good. looks like the b pistons will work where the a pistons were, but i am still going to measure everting. thank again.
Re: major pistons?
I increased the stored picture size, sorry about the Australian version, have not quite worked that out yet.
