does anyone know the date the sump filter plate with the bolts on bottom of sump was done away with on the dexta/sdexta.
or were the filter kept on all dextas until end of productionin sept/64

The parts book says sump and intake filter were changed in October 1963.

Its hanging on the intake pipe, you just have to drop the sump to get to it.
Reason for changing is later oils did not "sludge up" the filters because they are better at holding the carbon in suspension.
A few weeks ago we were discussing a Petrol/Kerosene Major that was badly sludged, the filters had to be dropped and cleaned at regular intervals back then but still the sludge stuck on all parts of the engine.
