What does this do?

Tractor & Machinery June this year. On p86 there's an FMD. Close to the top of the drop arm there's a lever with a long rod attached which seems to disappear near the front left headlamp.

The rod on mine has been chopped short, so wondering what it's for. And I've lost my link to diagrams. FMDs are a bit scarce in these 'ere parts.

Any help appreciated.

Don't have that magazine issue, but it sounds like it could be the radiator louvers lever.

Then some blighter has nicked me shutters! I bet they're lying around in a French vineyard somewhere.
