Major liner removal and re-fitting

Hi, I've just looked at your photos and in one of them (with the liners not quite in fully) I can see the injector pipes wrapped around something as they come out of the pump.

What is it? Is it some kind of heating element? I am curious.

The engine is a truck engine and that is an anti-vibration device to prevent breaking injection pipes at the higher truck revs.

ah. now ive always wondered what that was. it doesnt seem to rev that much, but what did the trucks rev to?

Does not sound a lot when you write it down but the original Majors were set at 1900 rpm no load speed. The truck engine went up to around 2100 rpm.

The tractor engine never really reved that hard, even the Supers were restricted to 1800 rpm with the New Performance just getting up to 2000.

Steven B may pick this up and add to it. He is the truck expert.

That explains why my Super doesn't want to go very high. It has the Minimec pump and goes to about 1800-1900. Is that about right then?

so i assume, that if it revs higher, it will go faster? what did they do originally, was it 14mph?

Your Super is spot on at that.

Road speeds on Majors were around 12 mph at 1400rpm. Depending on which Super You have and which axle ratio it could be lower.

well, got the con rod nuts torqued up, and i had forgotten how much of a b*****d the sump was to get back on, ended up with a jack under one end and a ratchet strap round the block and under the other end! Then realised, crap, i had forgotten the gasket, so back down it came about two inches, then back up again! Another stressful evening, with plenty of cider to help me along
