Multi-coloured Dextas (well different shades of blue)
Multi-coloured Dextas (well different shades of blue)
I have seen a number of Dexta's similar to one currently for sale on an online auction site. There are different shaded of blue present, is one an undercoat, was this a farmer slapping on some different paint or is it a bitsa tractor? I have attached a photo as an example.

Not sure how to add images, hope I am not breaking any rules but here is a link to the tractor. Photo number 3 is where my question originates.

No problem with E-Bay as long as you are not trying to advertise your own item on here.
I cannot seem to get the link to work and when I put in the reference number it tells me no such number.

Hello ncfcdexta, was that tractor in Wilkesboro, NC, we have a buisness about a half mile from where that tractor is for sale, I think the time ran out on ebay and researve was not met. I stopped and looked at it on Wed. the paint looks to dark for original blue to me. What part of NC are you from ?
Re: Multi-coloured Dextas (well different shades of blue)
It looks a bit like mine although the paint on mine looks better attached than that.
Mine has a layer of slightly lighter blue slapped over it. The chap who had mine got married on it so I presume it was all tarted up for the wedding pics.
On the whole the extra paint has helped preserve it but there are bits where the paint has sealed in lumps of grot and water which would have been better off left alone.
I would go and have a look at it if you can. I chose to keep clear of ones right on the coast in case they had been used as boat launchers. I should have learnt what the date codes meant and where to find them before I got my dexta and then found and checked them before buying it. Luckily mine has come out as a largely original 1960 one.

It probably just means it's been repainted!ncfcdexta wrote:I have seen a number of Dexta's similar to one currently for sale on an online auction site. My Dexta was two shades of blue before I had it blasted clean. It had all its original bits so not a bitsa - just been repainted with a different shade of blue before we got it in 1973. There are various 'Fordson' blues around, eg New Performance Dextas were painted a lighter shade than Empire Blue. Also don't think quality control was that good in the 50's so there were likely variations in colour between different batches of paint used by Ford.
From what I've read, colour of US Dextas is another ball game with yet more variations in blue.

Try this link: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320870861434? ... 3D1&_rdc=1
The actual body of the tractor has a purple hue and the tinwork and track rod arms etc are much lighter!
