Dexta / Super Dexta hybrid. Throttle links ???

Post by 60dexta »

Hi All,
I have a 1960 dexta that has had an engine change at some point to a Super dexta engine with a mechanical govenor.
The inlet manifold and air filter have the linkages for the butterfly in the inlet manifold. Presumably originally it would have had the pneumatic govenor.
The butterfly is removed so the linkages connected to the butterfly don't do anything.

The bulkhead between the engine and battery area was chopped about and bits and pieces welded on.
Today I got a super dexta bulkhead with its throttle link and friction pad. I have now bolted this on...

The linkage on the left hand side on the engine is connected and it in the tickover position.
The linkage that goes across in front of the battery appears to be twisted about half a turn out of position. I am sure it is not so wondering what mis-match I have going on here?
Can someone with a super dexta shed some light on this?

Also.. which way is the throttle lever meant to increase revs... pushing the lever forwards?

I think I might have figured it out....
I found this picture of Eddie's (Eddie's I think)

It shows all the same links I have but I don't have a hole in the big pressed steel bracket that holds up the fuel tank..... I think there will soon be one :D

Hi All,
I had a good day on the dexta and made the super dexta throttle links work in a standard dexta. I had to drill a big hole in the fuel tank bracket for the throttle rod to pass through, move the starter contactor and move the horn which I had put right in the way only a few days ago.
Replacing the bulkhead between engine and battery has been a good thing to do. Now the air intake fits through the bonnet without having to heave it forwards, the bonnet catches have half a chance of working and things just seem to fit better.

That is the way it is now.
With the way the links appeared to lie when I first dropped them into place it would have reversed that.
The link from next to the steering box to next to the air filter passes through a hole in the fuel tank support.
That link appeared to be wanting connecting on the upper side of the shaft that goes across the front of the battery.
I had to drill out a hole lower in the plate for the link to pass through to enable it to be connected where it should be.
It is fine now.
