wiring

Post by brinky »

Hi again,
I've attached a link to a photo of a couple of wires that do not go anywhere on the major, in the hope that someone can tell me what they are and where they should go....

Thanks

Cant recall wire colours but being that close to starter solenoid it could be horn or dynamo cutout/regulator (especially if been converted to alternator) depending on model as earlier ones had cutout under fuel tank behind dash.

Correct - Y/G is the horn and Y/W is the Gen light cut off. Numbers 11 & 17 on the wiring diagram.

Ok, what is the gen light cut off? And where is the horn usually mounted on a major?

The Gen Light Cut off is the same as the gen exciter ... goes to the gen light in the instrument cluster and the generator. It gives the excitement charge to the generator to get it to start genning.

The horn button is at the bottom center of the instrument housing. Don't ask me where the horn is located cuz I didn't have one either and don't know where it should go.

I obviously don't have one of them, there is a small hole in the control panel that looks like something should be there, is it important? The voltmeter says the dynamo is charging.
I too have a horn button.

Apologies

Please disregard my above posts ... I could have sworn you had a Power Major but in checking I was evidently wrong.

Yellow with green tracer comes from the lighting switch to horn button and then to horn
Yellow (the one that looks a little white in the photo)=ammeter/goes on the battery side of solenoid

The horn was a Clear Hooters that was made in Britian. It is mounted under the fuel tank in the area between the Fuel tank and the Air Cleaner. Dandy Dave!
