Lift cross shaft bushes

Hi Jamie

Thanks for responding. From your explantion it sounds like your bushes were not reusuable. My plan was to try and reuse the bushes from a better cross shaft for the current top. I did however say to the technician/machanic that they should build one usable one out of the three tops I took to them. I believe I must replace the original top and see what happens after some running.

Hi Mervyn,

I suppose the bush which is pushed out by the cross shaft could be re used, and to be honest, the purpose of this exercise was to replace worn bushes so I didnt try to save the second one.

Once the shaft is out it would be a fairly easy job to push out the second bush.

Just remember that it is the shaft seized in the centre arm which is the problem, not the bushes seized in the housing!

Thats quite right Jamie, the cross shaft is fairly loose in the bushes. Once I have replaced the rear transmission end I will probably take it to an auto engineer and see what he can do. He may have a stronger press.
