The PM should be home soon, hopefully working, but I just had a thought which lead to this, possibly daft, question.

If I have a topper hanging off the back, and lift it to travel between fields, does the pto have to be spinning constantly and therefore the topper be spinning, while the arms are raised? Or is it possible to disconnect the PTO and have the arms stay in the raised position with the weight of a topper on the back??

Halloween,

There are no daft questions, only daft answers.

The Power Major hitch will stay in the position if the pump is turning or not. The only thing is, the system could lose some oil leaking around the piston, or valves. Mine does. Therefore I have to raise is once in a while. Best thing is to see how long it takes to lower the arms while you have an implement in it.
My solution is two chains hanging from the top link to de lift arm connection or a bar under the lift arm that is put in a drawbar system.

It depends, as Henk says as to how fast your implement drops( heavier topper will drop faster than a lighter one), and how far you are travelling between paddocks.
If you are travelling down the road, then you differnatly do not want the topper spinning.
My Major & I do quite abit of travelling between paddocks with my pasture management business, both on & off road.
I actually disconnect the driveshaft from the PTO. I can then re-engage the pto to have hyd lift functions while travelling, without it spinning.
On my topper. I have welded a loop hook so I can just hook the driveshaft into it, so it does'nt fall off/apart :oops: onto the road.
On my flail mower, I actually pull the 2x halves of the driveshaft apart.
It takes 5 seconds to disconnect the driveshaft.
A raised pto would be really helpful so you can disengage drive, but still have hydraulics.

The above points boil down to the condition of your pump. My PM's pump seems to be in good shape. The 3PH has stayed up with a 950 Lb flail attached after I had checked it for debris and then got distracted by ... lunch. :oops: I know that doesn't say much about my attention span but it does indicate the linkage is evidently SUPPOSE to stay up without the PTO engaged.

The wife took this to remind me that my memory isn't what it use to be. :scratchhead:

Thanks guys. So the consensus is that it 'Should' stay up, but be prepared to stick a chain on it! :D
