Petrol (GAS) super Major
Petrol (GAS) super Major
Was there any gas super majors ? I have looked for one with a gray hood (5000 FORD) but have not seen any,the parts book indicates that they were built to 1964.

Re: Petrol (GAS) super Major
I beg to differ on this guys, in the farmers weekly last week there was a super major, with a petrol engine, completely original, up for £4995. It said in the advert, very rare and hard to find!
Oh yay, look, another seized bolt! Lets get a hammer.....and some kano.....and some cider!

Nick, I think the Farmers Weekly may have been misinformed. I’m thinking the petrol production stopped in the 50s maybe even before 57. I’ll do some looking later tonight, first I have to finish fixing the chimney flashing tonight before it gets dark, and the cold weather is just around the corner.

Guys
I'm sure Brian has mentioned before (when this subject came up prevoiusly) that the petrol engine was available as an option into the 1000 series.
Now was that the US version of the Super Major 5000, or the world series 5000, I don't know.

Re: Petrol (GAS) super Major
Ok, I got the chimney flashing all done, cleaned up, and sat down with my “Fordson New Major” book by Allan T Condie and…..you guessed it Kev is correct again!
The TVO’s were dropped in 57 with the introduction of the Mark II engines. The petrol’s were available, mainly for export through 64.
Unfortunately this is not the first and probably not the last time I go off flapping my jaws assuming I know what I’m talking about. A smart old gent I worked with years ago once explained the word ‘assume” for me, It can make an ASS out of U and ME, I think he knew what he was talking about.

Good to see ya back with us

I guess we should steer clear of the word expert too on here, an old guy told me the translation of that one day. An "Ex" is a has been, and a "spurt" is a drip under pressure
