Sealant on engine gaskets?

Post by russelm »

Any views?

I am about to attach the timing case backing plate and was unsure if there should be sealant of any form on the gasket (e.g. the orrible Hylomar?)?

Thanks

Mark

I have some of this stuff:

http://www.heldite.com/html/technical_info.html

Which I think should be ok.

Hi Mark.

I have done on all of my gaskets excluding the head gasket that is!

Just an extra precaution, just not too much though.

Regards,
Mark

Thanks Mark

I use the Heldite (which is thin and paints on) on the locomotive and DMU and just wondered on peoples thoughts.

So sealant it is!
