Starter Motor

Hi,
How do I disengage my starter motor...... when the battery is connected it turns over even when the engine is running. At the moment I am taking the live lead off once she starts, but this is not a fix. Any ideas or images would be great.

Good day Damian,

If everything is still connected as original,it seems your starter relay is stuck.
You should find it near the batterytray.
I don't think there's a fix for this,just replace it.

Rob, I take it you are referring to the solenoid

I would have thought the exact same thing.

It could be the switch on the starter it's self thats sticking . pull the rubber shroud back and give it a squirt of WD40.
You could also try tapping the solenoid , Jim

Yes, do some basic continuity tests on the starter solenoid and starter motor switch to pin point the fault first.

Yep that's the most commonly used word for it.

If i would go to a tractor dealer and ask for a solenoid i would probably just get empty stares,asking for a starter relay they will reply "here you go,anything else?"

The word "solenoid" is more used in cars, for instance the stepper motor that regulates the idle speed by varying air inlet.
Or in model planes to drive the throttle and wingflaps.
